The UGI system is an intrusion detection and verification system designed to seal paths, sensitive installations, deployable airfields and other areas which are too numerous and too far apart to be guarded effectively. Energy conservation was a major factor in the development process; hence, the system is constantly dormant. Upon detection, the sensors “wake-up” the entire system and consequently begin to photograph the intrusion. The images are than compressed and transmitted via non-line-of-sight communication to a base station, which can be located dozens of miles away. The operator first receives an audio alarm followed by the actual images of the intrusion, which arrive within seconds and are displayed in a “movie-like” fashion. The operator then can decide the course of action necessary to deal with the scenario.
